February 1st sees the release of ‘Starman,’ a new EP from the creative mind of Champagne Drip. Otherwise known as LA based producer Sam Pool, he serves up this four-track collection via Wakaan.
The last couple of years have featured releases via Quality Goods Records, Mad Decent and Saturate Records, with official remixes for the likes of Zeds Dead, Diplo and UZ.
Kicking off his first release of 2019 is ‘The Sentinel,’ an atmospheric banger packed with low-end frequencies and a deep rolling bassline. ‘Soundboy Dead’ takes things darker with drawn-out drawls of melody coming in and out like a wave, whilst sharpened vocal samples cut through in direct contrast. Crystalline features on the stunning ‘Kaleidoscope,’ a cinematic production highlighting sweeping vocals and thick, expansive washes of bass.
He checks out with ‘Satellite’ ft. Len X; bringing together galactic-inspired synth riffs and rhythmically tight drops with lightly scattered vocals. It bridges the gap between bass and electronic themes perfectly, another testament to his immersive sound design.
“With Starman I wanted to create a more diverse record. In ‘The Sentinel’ and ‘Soundboy Dead’ I explore visceral sub driven depths. To me they almost sound like some sort of communication from an ancient presence, tapping into something deep, internal and mystical. In ‘Kaleidoscope’ and ‘Satellite’ I went into lighter more spacious psychedelia.
Each track was started during a different time of inspiration so they all come from a different place. It was really exciting pulling these together and making something cohesive.”

This is a top tier album of chill bass driven music, sitting in that sweet spot that makes it accessible to both the dancer and the sofa listener. The entire album has a coherent theme throughout, each track with it's own vibe. Josh Vishnu
