about
Bass artist Jaenga had a clear philosophy from day one, music should not be limited by industry standards or genre boundaries. Erupting onto the scene in 2015, Jaenga distinguished himself in the festival circuit early, with his signature purple school bus and electrifying bass sounds. Jaenga and the “renegade bus” are renowned for hosting some of the biggest names in the electronic scene, attracting top talent such as Griz, Eprom, Slushii, and Buku with its collaborative environment and creative energy. Joining the lineup of festivals such as ElectricForest, and Camp Bisco, he has defined his live shows by immersing audiences in the world of Jaenga. A bass purist with retro sensibilities, Jaenga integrates live guitar, drums, or even just a pair of CDJs into his experiential performances. His musical output includes three EPs which feature fan favorites like "Gravity," "Feel So Good," and most recently, "Wildfire."
London-based beat-boxer-turned-DJ/producer Conrank has deservedly established himself as one of bass music’s most innovative voices. Spending years as a globe-trotting musician residing in Shanghai, LA and Europe, Conrank has earned the reputation of tearing up any stage or club he visits with his uncompromising brand of dubstep, grime and drum n’ bass. With remixes for The Prodigy, G Jones and Zeds Dead as well as original track collaborations with Bassnectar, Bleep Bloop, Yheti and DJ Shadow, Conrank’s sound has evolved and incorporated a varied range of styles along the way. His landmark EP ‘Distorted Method’, Conrank has built a fearsome reputation for delivering relentless bass line bangers. With "Drum in Time," his collaboration with Dirt Monkey "Level 8" and "Tonk Sound," each new release showcases his distinctive and ever-developing sound.
On September 10th Jaenga and Conrank will release their high-octane cross-genre collaboration with popular London-based Grime artist Yizzy who is well known as one of the most exciting up and coming grime artists in London. Starting in 2018 he was spotlighted in one to watch features by The Fader, Clash & Complex, as well as Sian Anderson’s ‘Alternative List’ for 1Xtra. His debut EP This Is Life and previous releases "Do You Wanna" and "Steppin" have received wide critical acclaim from the likes of Mass Appeal, The Guardian, Dummy, and many more. Most recently, his unreleased song "Only One" was placed in EA Sports' UFC 4 video game. Their collaboration, "Tell Man What," incorporates elements of dubstep, trap, and grime as Yizzy's upbeat, signature vocal delivery resides on a futuristic and dynamic soundbed provided by Jaenga and Conrank.
“Began writing this melody on a rooftop in NYC, reminiscing on some of my favorite classics that got me into dubstep back in 2012. It felt like something would be right up Conrank’s alley, and was stoked he was down to make this tune together. Topped with Yizzy’s sharp, aggressive vocals - whew! Really pulled the track together. Reminds me of the festival anthems we all love, but with new school production.” - JAENGA
“When Jaenga sent me the original concept for the track I was knee deep in working on my album, but after I heard it I knew I had to get involved, Yizzy absolutely smashed the vocal. Amazingly even though me and Jaenga were circumnavigating the word and generally in different time zones, we managed to get it done... and I’m so happy it’s finally being unleashed via Wakaan. It’s a stomper!” - CONRANK

I don't need the members of any community discarded and body othered as a bitch, thanks of the trees for helping me realize there's no point in bass music that I need to hear someone slip the word into my eardrum. cya. BeatsaNdBuds
These five tracks tell a lucid story with tones and textures, AND nearly demand you move your body during each piece.
This EP calls between critical nodes of musical DNA that link together many of my favorite parts of the electronic scene.
Good for a party with that edgy energy, a firespin, or night drive! David Rees
