about
Robert Balotsky, best known as Buku, is a Pittsburgh native musician with a penchant for warped, out-of-this-world bass. A celebrated producer since his 2013 debut, Buku accelerates his influence with his newest single “What You See.” The spitfire single is available via WAKAAN Friday, August 21.
An EDM industry favorite, Buku has quickly become a household name in modern bass music. In 2013, his debut EP Janky marked the genesis of a soon-to-be highly successful career. The 3-track extended play immediately captured the attention of Diplo, sending a shotgun blast into the world of dance music. Following his break into the global perspective, the producer has been championed by a variety of noteworthy curators including Pete Tong, Anna Lunoe & Zane Lowe via worldwide broadcasts on BBC Radio 1, Beats 1 Radio, as well as garnering the support of his peers for collaborations with the likes of Paper Diamond, G. Jones, Minnesota, GRiZ, and The Knocks. With releases across dance music’s most prominent labels it comes as no surprise that Buku managed to pull a sync deal with EA Sports for an inclusion in Madden ‘18. His explosive and experimental sound design led to impressive performances at Hulaween, Lost Lands, Imagine, Something Wonderful, and more. Like a full steam locomotive, Buku shows no signs of pumping the breaks. Making his WAKAAN debut on August 21, the wicked producer showcases his infatuation with percussion-heavy beats with “What You See.” Steeped in a mutated sound design with breakneck transitions and heavy-hitting patchwork synths, this thunderous cut capitalizes on his already-impressive catalog.
“In January 2020, I packed up my studio and headed to a small town by a lake. I spent the next 3 weeks writing music and getting my body and mind healthy. "What You See" was the final song I wrote during this period of isolation. After a few weeks of rejuvenation, I felt like I was seeing everything more clearly, and it reignited my flame of vehement desire to create." - Buku

These five tracks tell a lucid story with tones and textures, AND nearly demand you move your body during each piece.
This EP calls between critical nodes of musical DNA that link together many of my favorite parts of the electronic scene.
Good for a party with that edgy energy, a firespin, or night drive! David Rees
I can't stop listening to this album. It's so good. So many different amazing songs. Yheti can turn such small amounts of time into massive complex journeys. Signals from above grew on me over time a great deal and I think that is always a special and mysterious thing. voidhaven

omg, this is awesome! i have been a huge tipper fan a long time, albums like broken soul jamboree & forward escape are rare electronic masterpieces. i have listen to this more than 100 times and i can detect always more layers...so ful of details in the background...a class of it's own, music and production are not from this world! dub orange
